The Office of Health Care Statistics partnered with HealthInsight, an organization focused on improving health and healthcare, to calculate the cost of having a baby in Utah. The costs were determined by using the All Payer Claims Database (APCD) and healthcare facilities data available at OHCS. The cost information is available at utahhealthscape.org and is based on the most current data available for analysis.
The tool on utahhealthscape.org allows users to view costs for the different types of birth (vaginal or cesarean) and optional services based on the zip code. A comparison table is displayed with the service provided and the usual cost for the zip code searched and the usual cost for Utah. This tool will help mothers, families, and healthcare consumers make informed decisions about their healthcare choices and start conversations related to cost of care with their insurance and healthcare providers.
